Some of you may have noticed, but the first thing I do during a facial is a casual sweep with my hands over the face. I do this to get a sense of how the skin feels that very minute. I often notice that the skin hasn't been exfoliated. What I feel is dry dusty skin - it's as if there is a layer of dead skin. In fact, it really in truly is dead skin. By the time the skin cells have made their way to the top surface of the skin, they are dead. They are shedding. Help this process along by buffing off those dead skin cells. A couple of problems can occur if those skin cells aren't removed. Pitta skin types, those with a tad more oil in the skin can result in blackheads, milia, and more inflammation. Kapha skin types will have that dull look to the skin and perhaps more blackheads and shine.
There are 2 types of exfoliates, mechanical and chemical. Mechanical exfoliation is the scrubing, featuring jojoba beads, silica beads, or in my case chickpea flour, oat flour or magnesium oxide crystals and amphorus diatomaceous earth. These exfoliates are suitable for Vata skin (dry) and kapha (oily). A chemical exfoliant, refers to the acids or enzymes used in products or peels. While I don't use an alpha or beta peels, I do have an enzyme probiotic exfoliant that utilizes the fruit enzymes of papaya and pineapple. This enzyme treatment is wonderful for inflamed or sensitive pitta types. You NEVER want to use a mechanical exfoliant on inflamed skin. This is often counter intuitive for the teenagers out there struggling with adolescence. Please, don't encourage the buff-puff mentality. It only aggravated the unpleasant condition. Trust me . . .
I will now me offering a Pumpkin Peel. Again, this is an enzyme product that will act as an incredible chemical exfoliant to refresh the winter weather skin on any individual. This product is rich in anti-oxidants to repel any free radical damage and will continue the process of cell turnover, reducing breakouts and congestion issues. An additional charge of $10 will be added to a facial if you choose to experience a pumpkin peel.
